A Student

I am an undergraduate senior at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. Currently, I am double majoring in English with an emphasis on Rhetoric and Professional Writing and Digital Technology and Culture; I also have a minor in Spanish. While I initially enrolled as a Pre-Veterinary Animal Science student at WSU, I changed in order to study what I truly enjoyed, reading and writing. My academic career at WSU taught me the importance of critical thinking, expressing thoughts in writing, the influence of rhetorical theory, and to explore new areas of interest, no matter how foreign initially.

An Athlete

At WSU, I compete for the the varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams. As a distance runner, I race six kilometers in the fall for Cross Country and for Track I specialize in the 1500 meter run in the spring. I have been running since the eight grade; this year is my tenth season of competitive distance running. With three competition seasons and an active off-season, distance running is a full-time commitment. Throughout the years, the sport taught me discipline, strength, and determination. Most of all, I have learned to sacrifice in order to be successful, a tool vital for academics, athletics, and life.

A Person

While some people may identify me simply as a student or as an athlete, I am a whole person. When not studying or running, I work as a writing tutor in the WSU Writing Center, as well as working as a student intern at the Washington State Magazine as a student writer and web developer. Having grown up in the mountains of New Mexico, I am a person who enjoys the Southwest culture, eating red and green chile and pinto beans, horseback riding and herding cattle, mountains and forests, backpacking and camping, and sledding when it snows. Also, because I am the third child of six in my family, I love family and friends who taught me to read, sing, pray, love, and enjoy life.
